Hockey Strength & Speed Camp – June 2010

We are pleased to announce our June 2010 – Atlantic High Performance Hockey Camps!

Take your game to the Next Level! Hockey parents often wonder, “should I register my son for a one or two week hockey school, or should my child work on his strength and speed”?

Let’s look at it form a “what makes sense standpoint”, if your child is playing hockey for 9 months out of the year and during that time is working on his or her sports specific muscle memory, balance, conditioning, and skill, how much strength do you think they can gain during that time? Probably not much.  As the rigors of a long season progress playing an aerobic / anaerobic sport like hockey the body begins to break down, performance becomes stagnant, and there is significant muscle loss caused from improper nutrition and lack of training. As a parent, if you work day in and day out, do you become mentally drained? I know I do! The pros have proven it and players like Sid the kid have been training full time in the summer since the age of 13.

Your body needs a break, and a break doesn’t mean “let’s play another sport during the summer” it doesn’t mean “let’s instruct at hockey schools all day long”, it means “let’s build some strength and speed”! Training sports specific muscle groups to become stronger and more explosive will improve a players fundamentals, edging, stick handling, and shot power. Participating in a camp with 40-50 players on the ice early and mid summer will not make you a complete player.

Parents are already spending massive amounts of money on their child’s development, all were saying is…. step back and really think about how the best use of your money would make your son or daughter better? Consider this, a 4 day hockey school costs around $500.00, and when your done what improvements do you see? Train for 8 weeks and we will show you the difference! Hockey Schools concentrate on skating, stick handling, and puck control, and the experts believe that when you are ages 4 – 11, it is a necessity to hone in on those skills, but as you become older there are no game situation camps! No one to show you how to play the game to progress to the highest level! Wrong! That is why Next Level has hired qualified staff (adults, not children) to teach game play, because ultimately you can stick handle better than Billy, but if you don’t understand the game you will not advance. Only those with exceptional talent can get away with doing what they want to do. Don’t get me wrong, we are also in the on ice business, we could run on ice programs all summer long too, but as professionals we know you can continue to work your hands and shot off the ice, Joe Thornton and Jeff Carter did it in their back yard, so can you.

Below are programs I have used for over 15 years and programs that have developed some of the NHL’s best.

Summer Hockey Program Details

1. Strength & Speed Program

Athletes will take part in a structured program based on the physiological profile of their sport. Precise attention is given to every element of athletic performance like strength, speed, agility and nutrition. Players will participate in our 8 week off season hockey specific program that will enhance their strength and power.

2. Orientation Workshops

We’ll use the first week sessions to do baseline testing, explain nutrition and teach exercise technique so that you hit the ground running for maximum results.

3. The Program Begins

After athletes are done week one of testing and orientation we are now ready to start the summer program. You will need to make sure you are early for each workout and that all demands are met such as following your diet and all rules pertaining in the program! We expect to see big gains from every player in the program.

4. On Ice Programs

High quality experienced coaches and instructors to help players better understand the game. Game situation instruction will be emphasized to make you a complete player. Learn how to play different offense and defensive systems, same as what’s taught at the NHL and at the Major Junior A Level. Can I try the camp for the first couple days and if I don’t like it, get my money back, because $800 is alot to pay for if you find out you dont like it 1 week into an 8 week program

commenter

Hi Cameron,

Unfortunatley when you commit to the camp a spot is then taken from someone else. I understand that $800.00 is quite a bit of money but if you compare it to a 4 day hockey school which runs between 4 and 5 hundred dollars….8 weeks is very reasonable.

I have been running these camps for over 15 years with great success and I know you would benifit from it if you commit yourself 100%. If you want to discuss it in greater detail why don’t you give me a call, I would love to have the opportunity to go over specifics.

Thank you,

Spero
