After some long analysis Team Canada’s executive director  Steve Yzerman announced Team Canada’s Olympic hockey roster last week and now it’s head coach Mike Babcock turn to lead the team the rest of the way.

This is not a final roster. Players can be replaced up until 24 hours before the Olympic tournament begins if injuries to those on the team occur.

Only seven players named Wednesday were part of Canada’s seventh place finish at the 2006 Olympics in Turin.

Missing forwards include Jeff Carter (Flyers), Shane Doan (Phoenix Coyotes), Ryan Smyth (LA Kings), Vincent Lecavalier (Tampa Bay Lightning), Martin St. Louis (Tampa Bay Lightning), Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay Lightning) and Mike Fisher (Ottawa Senators).

Goalies Cam Ward (Carolina Hurricanes) and Steve Mason (Columbus Blue Jackets) didn’t make the cut.

Missing blueliners  include Mike Green of the Washington Capitals, the leading point-getting defenceman in the NHL; and Calgary Flames Dion Phaneuf, Robyn Regehr and Jay Bouwmeester.
